Opening night: Sat 28 October, 4–7pm
Exhibition runs until: Fri 3 November

Shaped By Time is the first solo exhibition by local Mornington Peninsula artist Luke Tyrrell. This exhibition features an array of paintings and drawings which explore the rugged yet beautiful back beach coastline between Rye and Sorrento. Luke was inspired to produce the artwork for this exhibition during one of his numerous runs along the stunning but often deserted coastal trail that winds through the sand dunes. Luke has combined his passion for trail running and painting to collect stimulus in the form of photographs and sketches to produce this series of artworks.

About the artist
Luke is an oil painter who was born and raised on the Mornington Peninsula. He developed a passion for drawing from an early age but didn’t pursue this until deciding to drop out of university while he was studying engineering to travel Europe, the Middle East and Africa for 3 years. During this time Luke kept a series of visual journals which fostered his love of drawing. This led Luke to study Illustration and then Fine Art at Monash University where he majored in painting. Luke combines photography, drawing and oil painting to visually explore a range of subject matter, including coastal landscapes and figurative painting. For the past 7 years Luke has worked full time as a secondary Art teacher, and has been inspired by the exhibitions of fellow art teachers to have his first solo show.
