Planning a Kid's Birthday Party
One of the biggest trends we’re seeing right now is a return to the classic kid's birthday party and we are here for it! Think bright colours, DIY decorations, nostalgic party food, hands-on activities and plenty of fun. There’s something wonderfully simple about a party where the kids are busy creating, playing, eating and laughing together.
DIY food, colourful crafts, nostalgic games and entertainment everything you need to create a birthday party the kids will remember. Planning a kid's birthday party can feel like a lot, but it doesn’t have to mean spending a fortune on elaborate decorations, catered food and endless entertainment.
Here’s our guide to creating the ultimate kids’ birthday party and guess what, we have the perfect space for you to hire too!
Bring Back the 90s Birthday Party
The 90s are having a moment — and kids’ parties are no exception.
We’re seeing more parents embrace the colourful, slightly chaotic and very fun birthday parties we remember from growing up.
Think…
Bright rainbow colours
Balloons everywhere
DIY decorations
Paper streamers
Handmade party bags
Classic party games
A big birthday cake
And, of course, all the nostalgic party food!
The best part? It doesn’t need to be perfect. In fact, the more homemade and colourful, the better.
DIY PARTY FOOD IDEAS
Rainbow Fruit Skewers
The more colours the better! Let the kids get involved to help create their own combinations.
Homemade Sausage Rolls
Serve with tomato sauce for the ultimate party food experience. Perfect warmed up or cold.
Honey Joys
A true party classic! These crunchy, sweet little treats are always a hit.
Fairy Bread
Because is it really a kid's party without fairy bread? White bread, butter and hundreds and thousands — simple!
Chocolate Crackles
Another childhood favourite that is easy to make in batches and looks great in colourful cupcake cases.
Chips & Snacks
Fill a few colourful bowls with chips, popcorn, pretzels or crackers so the kids can help themselves.
BRING ON THE ENTERTAINMENT
Once you’ve sorted the food and activities, it’s time to add the WOW factor. There are so many fantastic kids’ party entertainment options available now, from active experiences to creative entertainment. Depending on your child’s age and interests, you could look at:
Pony Rides
For the little animal lovers, why not bring the ponies to the party? We recently had Peninsula Pony Parties here at THE NOOK, with pony rides set up in our car park. It was such a lovely addition to a kid's birthday celebration and something the children were very excited about.
Meet a Magical Faery
If you haven’t met our very own Peninsula favourite, Faery Emma, you are missing out! Known for her magical and highly engaging children's party entertainment, Faery Emma combines interactive storytelling and plenty of imagination to captivate children of all different ages.
BUBBLE ARTIST
Becky Bubble brings the wonder of bubbles to life with giant bubbles and interactive bubble experiences that kids absolutely love. Her bubble artistry adds a playful, mesmerising touch to your celebration. Best enjoyed in the courtyard on a calm, dry day!

Silent Disco
Sophie from Pohss Studio will keep the kids entertained and dancing until it’s time for food! A silent disco is a great option if you want something energetic and fun without having music blasting throughout the entire space. The parents get to talk and the kids get to dance!
Face painting
Face painting is a classic for a reason! We had Brush Stroke Bliss join us at our Christmas Market and her face painting skills were seriously impressive. From colourful designs to little works of art, face painting is an easy way to add something extra special to a birthday party.
SCIENCE workshop
The Science Shed brings interactive science parties where kids can dress up in lab coats and safety glasses, watch exciting science demonstrations and get hands-on with their own experiments. From colourful reactions to bubbling concoctions, it's the perfect mix of fun & discovery!
