Subways + Sidewalks | Photography by Thomas Terlaak {Exhibition}

Opening Night: Sat 23 April, 6–9pm
Exhibition runs: Sun 24 – Mon 25, 9–5pm

250,000 steps, in 2 weeks. I walked New York endlessly. When I couldn't walk I used subways. Uncovering a whole other underground world. My aim was to see New York for myself, beyond the generic shots I had been fed in movies. The collection perfectly captures my experiences and how unique and amazing the city is.

Inspired by the natural world, each artist reflects on their connections to places, memories, ideas and objects through their respective mediums.

Sarah Dingwall (Glass artist), Kate Macindoe (Silversmith) and Emma Morgan (Illustrator) enjoy working alongside each other in their shared studio space at Commonfolk in Mornington. Together, they have valued the creative processes behind hand-making each of the artworks in this show.

Mashara Wachjudy {Artist Residency}

Mashara Wachjudy
Artist Residency 26 – 31 April

We are excited to welcome Mashara Wachjudy to The Nook Gallery for a week of reflection, research and exploration. Mashara will be setting up an art studio where her exploration will focus on landscapes, but will also touch on the Indigenous histories of the Bunwurrung people and land in the Kulin nation. Mashara is interested in exploring place and time and her relationship to the land of the Mornington Peninsula.

After being away for a year, Mashara has come to realise how significant the Mornington Peninsula landscape is and wants to explore this in her art – through photography, sculpture, writing, drawing, painting, collage – whatever feels right! She will then be exhibiting the completed works later this year at The Nook Gallery.

Mashara would like to invite the public to come and interact with her artistic process – all are welcome to pop in and have a chat whilst perusing her works in progress.

Dates: Sat 26 – Thu 31 March 2016
Time: 10–3pm daily
Location: 18 Progress St, Mornington (Next door to Commonfolk)
Space: Small Front Gallery

'Australian Escape' - Landscapes by Alex 'Ajay' Jennings {Exhibition}

Saturday 27th February - 6 til 9pm
One Night Only

Through the study of Communication Design, Ajay developed an interest in the realm of image-making and the connection between visual and verbal language. Through Art & Design and a visceral collaboration with the viewer, he hopes to position a narrative that challenges people to see beyond the object.

Prior to 2014, Ajay’s primary focus was digital design. It wasn’t until later that year - after being diagnosed with CFS (Chronic Fatigue Syndrome) - that he could fully immerse himself into painting, a more intimate practice.

Australian Escape is a small collection of Ajay’s works completed from his studio in Northcote over the past 6 months. A manifestation of his chronic illness, these paintings offer him a form of escapism whilst opening up a channel for communication.

Artworks available for purchase (Eftpos available).
