ABOUT THE ARTIST
Trudi Hipworth is a self taught artist from Melbourne. From a young age Trudi was always drawing, surrounded by a family of artists. Painting for Trudi is a meditative process and she believes there is a deep connection between nature, art and healing.
Her work is known for her use of vibrant colours and organic textures. Her Butterfly and Puzzle series are clean and deliberate with the focus on colour. With her Minimal Beauty series the opposite is true, layers are built up using impasto, acrylic paint and natural sponges, traditional painting tools are rarely used. Her approach is to explore colour relationships through a chanced harmony which is achieved intuitively. She is inspired by patterns derived from nature, texture and colour relationships.
Trudi has been exhibiting in Melbourne since 2009, participating in numerous group and solo shows. Her works are held in private collections in the United States of America, Ireland and throughout Australia.
ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
To experience the paintings in this exhibition, completed by local artist Trudi Hipworth, is to revisit an elegant truth: that simplicity is essential to achieving harmony.
Consider the “Puzzle” series where the viewer flicks between abstraction and reality via judiciously placed slices of colour within simplified forms. Or the “Stone” series where the grace of organic pattern play is magnified to a reassuring, soothing scale.
Hipworth's latest series, “Minimal Beauty”, takes her love of simple harmony to its extreme. Floating bands of humming colour offer a slice of meditative calm - one that infuses Hipworth’s creative process and artistic presence.
Nature invites itself into Trudi Hipworth’s studio. Butterflies, beetles and parrots are drawn by the tranquil energy of her creative process. It is from these creatures that Hipworth finds inspiration for her luminous colour harmonies and immersive compositions. She believes there is a deep connection between nature, art and healing. For her, painting is a meditative process - one informed by a family of artists, a childhood of drawing and years of experimentation.
